My name is Nathan Christiansen and I have created this web site as a resource for the beginning do-it-yourself home improvement want-to-be. For years I have watched my father repair broken items in the house and have seen him do home improvements on our home. This is a skill that is very important, and can not only save tons of money, but also can allow you to customize your job and get a better result.
Home improvement is a lot of fun and gives me the feeling of accomplishment. For this website, I have used several major resources to gather information. First of all there is a great book called, Home Improvement 123 from Home Depot. This is a must-have for anyone that is a novice and attempting to fix up around the house. I have also used a web site called www.doityourself.com. This is a great resource online with step-by-step instructions and forums on many topics. It does not go into great detail, but it is easy to understand and will give you easy instructions on most all major home improvements and repairs.
One of the real keys that I have found to home repairs and home improvement jobs is to have the right tools. This is great for all of you guys; another excuse to go make a tool purchase. But seriously, trying to use poor or wrong tools yields a terrible result. The single best two pieces of advice that I could give you before you begin your home fix-up or addition project is to:
1. Get the correct tools for the job, even if you have to rent them.
2. Make a plan and then follow it. “Winging it” when doing a remodel job is very dangerous and will end in a disaster. Take the time to plan, prepare, and get everything you need to complete the job. This will not only save time, but also money.
